Being a golfer and a GPS expert, I was very excited when Garmin announced the Approach G5. My first concern was what courses would be in there? Well it instantly it became what courses are not in there. I quickly found Crow Creek and I was ready to play. Other golf GPS units only show distances to the front or back of a hazard and they do not let you point to a specific spot and get a distance, the Approach G5 does, you can even zoom to a specific spot on the hole and get a closer look and a more accurate distance. When it came time for shots into the green or tee shots on the Par 3’s the G5 let me place the pin at any point on the green giving distance to that point, not just a front, middle, and back distance. The G5 can also keep track of score for your entire foursome, I thought this was just an extra feature until the pencil fell out of the cart around the 15th hole and we did not have a backup, plus it will let you download and save your scores to your computer. I can certainly say that the G5 helped me keep a few strokes off my score with all of the great features, now if it could putt for me you might see me on tour.

The Garmin Approach G5 was designed specifically for the golf course. The rugged, waterproof case of the Approach G5 makes the unit durable for any weather you may experience on the golf course. Inside the case is a beautiful 3” color touch screen display that is viewable in direct sunlight and a high sensitivity GPS receiver for the most accurate position reading possible.How does this translate to the golf course? Well first, the display shows an image of the hole that you are on including hazards and the shape of the green. The Approach G5’s high sensitivity receiver will ensure that you are getting the most precise distance reading to the green, hazards and fairways. Need to know how far it is to carry a hazard? Want to layup in front of that hazard? Simply touch the screen and the approach G5 will give you the distance from your location to that point. The Approach G5 will even show the detail of the fairway so you know what distance you need to keep the ball in the short grass. Best of all the Garmin G5 is already loaded with thousands of golf courses in the United States and there is no annual fee to download the available courses. Running off 2 AA batteries the Approach will work for up to 15 hours, as many as 3 full rounds of golf on one set. The Approach G5 and its Digital scorecard will keep track of the scores of your entire foursome. The included belt clip will allow you to clip the G5 to your belt or golf bag allowing you to keep your hands free while you navigate to your ball. The Garmin Approach G5 conforms to USGA/R&A rules.
