A Familiar Unit with more memory and a high sensitivity antenna.
The Garmin Etrex Legend was one of the first mapping handhelds available and it has now been updated with more of today’s newer technology and renamed the Etrex Legend H. The Etrex Legend H has all of the features you have come to expect from a handheld like a built-in basemap with highways and political boundaries, automatic track log and the ability to save waypoints and navigate to them. Garmin then added a higher sensitivity antenna, more memory and USB interfacing to make the new Etrex legend H a top choice handheld for a lower budget.
One issue that Garmin tackled to improve upon from the previous model was the internal GPS antenna. By adding a newer, high sensitivity, WAAS antenna the Legend H is able to receive GPS signal much better under deep foliage and in deep canyons. The next improvement they made was to add PC connectivity through USB port. USB interfacing allows for much faster map downloads and is universal on almost all PCs and MAC. If the built-in basemap is not detailed enough for your application, Garmin added 24mb of built-in memory to download more detailed maps like Mapsource Topo and Mapsource Inland Lakes which is all viewable on the Legend H’s high contrast screen with bright backlighting.
The Etrex Legend H was designed with a hiker or hunter in mind. The four-way cursor allows for simple one-hand operation and its small size makes it easy to carry.
