The Garmin Nuvi 880 is the first Garmin Nuvi to offer speech recognition. Included in the box is a voice recognition remote which attaches to your steering wheel. Simply press the button on the remote and start giving the Garmin Nuvi 880 commands or an address. The voice recognition remote allows you to keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road while safely navigating. Since we are talking about safety, the Nuvi 880 is also Bluetooth compatible which will allow you to connect your Bluetooth cell phone to the Nuvi for hands free calling right through internal speaker and microphone rather than fumbling around to find your cell phone.
Included with every Nuvi 880 is an MSN Direct receiver and a 3-month free subscription to MSN Direct services. MSN Direct service offers access to Real time information on gas prices, weather conditions, traffic reports to route you around delays and construction, local movie times with ratings and movie genre, news and stock reports, and local event information for sporting events, festivals, and concerts. You also have the ability to plan trips and locate destinations using Windows Live Local on your PC with the ability to wirelessly send this information to the Nuvi 880. The MSN Direct is currently available in over 100 cities and the information is broadcast over FM frequency directly to the MSN Direct receiver which is part of the Nuvi 880’s cigarette lighter adapter. Check this link for a list of cities where MSN direct is currently available.
The Garmin Nuvi 880 features a sunlight readable, wide 4.3” display that will automatically adjust for night time use for easy viewing. The display is also a touch screen, so if you do not speak your destination to the Nuvi 880 you can use the touch screen to simply enter it in. Built right inside every Garmin Nuvi 880 case is the Garmin Mapsource City Navigator NT North America software, featuring detailed maps from Navteq, as well as over 6 Million points of interest. Once you have touched in or spoken your address to the Nuvi 880, it will safely guide you to your destination. The Garmin Nuvi 880 will give you both on screen and verbal turn-by-turn direction with text-to-speech technology which announces the name of the street you will be turning onto. The Nuvi 880 and its custom avoidance option gives you the ability to avoid specific roads or sections of roads that you do not want to travel on and even choose an area that you want to avoid traveling through.
Other features include Garmin’s “Where Am I?” feature to give you your position and local emergency services and their telephone numbers. The Trip Log feature will show you exactly where you have been by leaving a trail on the map as you move along, this feature can be turned on and off in the menu. The Nuvi 880 will also mark its position when it is removed from the vehicle mount so it can safely navigate you back to your parked vehicle. Garmin Lock feature, speed limit indicator and Bluetooth technology for hands free calling are also included.
