Garmin upgraded the e-Trex Summit with Color Screen and Maps!
The Garmin eTrex Summit HC features an electronic compass, barometric altimeter and a color screen with maps, at a reasonable price. Garmin took their etrex Summit and overhauled it, adding a color display and mapping capabilities. Weighing in at 5.5 ounces with batteries installed and at a small 4.2” x 2.2” x 1.2”, Garmin kept to the ultra light compact design of the eTrex family. Running off two AA batteries, the Summit HC will last for up to 14 hours of use. What is most impressive in this unit is the high sensitivity 12 Channel WAAS GPS receiver, which will provide excellent GPS reception even in heavy tree cover.
The Summit HC was built with the outdoor enthusiast in mind so Garmin built-in an electronic compass to determine bearings while standing still and a barometric altimeter for increased accuracy of elevation readings. These great features make the Summit HC a great companion for your hunting and hiking trips.
Built into the the Summit HC is 24MB of memory for loading additional maps from the Garmin Mapsource family of products. The Summit HC includes the routable Americas Recreational basemap, which includes major highways, interstates and bigger lakes and rivers. You can enhance the built-in maps purchasing other Garmin Mapsource products such as, Bluechart, Topo, or City Navigator. Once you have the optional Mapsource software, load it to the on board memory and the Summit HC will display the additional map detail.
Each Summit HC is loaded with audible alarms for off-course, proximity waypoints, and anchor drag. The operation of the Summit HC is very easy allowing a novice to use it for hiking, biking, Geocaching, or getting you to your favorite fishing holes. Other features include: storage for 500 waypoints with symbol, 10,000 tracklog points, stopwatch, hunting/fishing calendar, and trip computer.
