The Icom IC-M422 fixed mount VHF radio has the advanced features of a high-end VHF marine radio but at a more affordable price. The IC-M422 comes from the factory with Icom’s own Force 5 Audio for excellent sound from the speaker as well as a microphone that is tuned to pick up voice and reduce any background noise. Icom has also included public address capabilities through a hailer or loudspeaker. The IC-M422 also has the abilility to expand with the optional Icom Command Mic II. The Icom Command Mic II will give you dual station operation and intercom capabilities with out having an additional radio. The Command Mic II can control most of the functions of the radio, with the exception of the DSC function.
Built-in DSC capability
The DSC (Digital Selective Calling) will allow you to send an emergency distress message at the push of a button*. The IC-M422 will use MMSI codes as telephone numbers allowing you to make contact with a specific vessel and the M422 can store up to 100 MMSI codes with a 5 character name. Because the IC 422 is a Class D DSC radio it will always monitor Channel 70 for DSC calls even when your on another channel. The IC-M422 has bare wires on the back of the radio to connect your GPS NMEA cables (required for DSC).

Rugged waterproof construction
With the IC-M422 you do not have to mount it in a covered area, as the radio is submersible.(Equivalent to JIS-7, submersible in up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes; except cables.)
