Multifunction 5" display with lightening fast chart redraw.
When Lowrance set out to create a new Chartplotter, they started at the front and worked their way back making sure they improved every aspect over the older LMS and LCX series plotters. With the HDS-5M you will notice the improvements right away when you see the sunlight viewable, 480 x 480 5’ SOLORMAX PLUS DISPLAY. The brighter and clearer display offers a much wider viewing angle and Lowrance even backlit the keypad for nighttime use. Locating your position is a cinch for HDS-5 with its super-sensitive 16-channel internal GPS antenna. And if you find yourself in a situation for an external antenna, like a pilot house or enclosed bridge, you can always add the Lowrance LGC-4000 external GPS antenna.
The Lowrance HDS-5M comes pre-loaded with all of the maps that most boaters would ever need. The built-in enhanced US base map includes most inland lakes with shoreline detail. For the coastal boater, Lowrance included their exclusive Nautic Insight maps for a whole new level of coastal mapping. The Nautic Insight mapping system includes contour shading for stunning perspectives of bottom structure and topography of coastal waters. Also built-in are offshore depth contours, spot sounding and navigational aids. If the Nautic Insight is not enough for you, the HDS5M will support Navionics Platinum, Platinum Plus and Platinum Hot Maps with TurboView.
And if that was not enough, the HDS-5M is expandable and network ready. You can add and view Sirius Weather, Sirius Radio, Lowrance High-Definition Radar and NMEA 2000 compatible equipment like fuel sensors, temperature sensors and engine interface sensors. The Lowrance LWX-1 Sirius Weather Module offers the user one of two packages. The inshore package features weather radar, lightning, other weather features and a real-time fuel price search. The offshore package includes a full suite of weather and sea conditions. Sirius radio is also available and includes 120 channels of digital quality broadcast.
Lowrance also made this unit much easier to use than past models with an improved keyboard design, faster processors and a more intuitive menu.
