Chad McCumbee ties season best with 7th place finish in Atlanta.

Chad McCumbee and The GPS Store/Garmin race team needed a change coming into this past weekends race at Atlanta. They got just what the doctor ordered with an incredible 7th place finish thanks to a great job by the entire race team. With Bobby Dotter back on top of the pit box making the calls, Chad wasted no time in cruising through the field from his 28th place starting position into the top 10 where he would make his presence felt almost the entire day. Chad is a student of racing and gathered valuable information about racing in Atlanta from veteran Ron Hornaday early in the race which helped him pick off competitors at an astounding rate. Chad consistently ran some of the fastest laps on the track and in the end passed 2 trucks on the last lap to bring The GPS Store/Garmin Chevrolet home in 7th place, equaling his best finish of the season. This is Chad's 3rd top 10 of the year and helps solidify his runner up standing for rookie of the year.

Looking forward the team is headed to Texas this weekend, home of Green Light Racing co-owner Gene Christensen. Chad recorded a 9th place finish in the spring race there this year and is looking forward to another strong run. The most difficult decision may be whether to run the same truck as the spring race or the hot rod from the Atlanta race. Either way the team has rebounded from adversity and has high hopes for the 3 remaining races of the season.
