White House releases GPS upgrades

WASHINGTON-The Bush administration today announced the availability of new Global Positioning System capabilities, accuracy and reliability upgrades that are expected to benefit cell phone communications and strengthen the U.S.' technological leadership position. The move comes as Europe inches closer to launching its own satellite-based navigation system.

Garmin Announces GPS Product Support for Mac OS X

MACWORLD EXPO, SAN FRANCISCO/January 10, 2006/PR Newswire — Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (Nasdaq: GRMN), today announced that it will immediately begin to make its line of GPS and mobile electronics devices compatible with Mac OS X version 10.4 "Tiger." This makes Garmin the first major GPS designer and manufacturer to announce direct support for Mac OS X.

Japanese Robo-Crop Dusters Seized

Drama is going on over in Japan regarding these miniature robotic crop dusters being manufactured by Yamaha. More than 200 Japanese police officers raided the Yamaha office Monday seizing nine of these crop dusting robots that were scheduled to be exported. These robots are unmanned, equipped with GPS and can be programmed to fly however the hell you want. In Japan they are primarily used for crop dusters, but Yamaha had nine of these robots bound for China, and that definitely raised some red flags. Bioterrorism weapons in the form of plastic RC ‘copters? You betcha!
