Forget those piddly wiretaps. The next frontier in warrant-free surveillance is upon us, and it's open to everyone. A UK service called World Tracker apparently uses cell tower data (or GPS, when available) to track the location of just about any GSM cellphone.

Bangalore: The mobile patrol squad of the city police, Hoysala, will soon be linked to the Police Control Room through Global Positioning System (GPS).

XM expands traffic reports

XM Satellite Radio is adding more cities to its GPS-based traffic reporting system.

The District-based broadcaster says it will add the Global Positioning System service in nine cities during the first quarter. XM NavTraffic is already offered in 22 cities, including Washington.

Now this is cool. Rakon, a 39-year-old New Zealand-based company, has developed the world’s smallest GPS receiver. Claimed to be as tiny as the size of a baby’s fingernail, the GPS receiver chip is small enough to be fitted into devices such as watches and cellphones. Lowrance to Be Acquired for $37 a Share
