For added convenience the display can be viewed in portrait or landscape mode and is even glove-friendly!  With the 600’s WAAS-enabled GPS receiver and HotFix Satellite prediction you can rest assured your location will be pinpointed precisely and accurately, even in heavy tree cover or deep in a canyon.  In addition, the built-in 3 axis tilt-compensated electronic compass ensures you know where you are heading at all times, while the barometric altimeter tracks changes in pressure to pinpoint your exact altitude and keeps you aware of changing weather conditions by tracking barometric pressure over time.  And with the one of a kind dual battery system that includes a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack or AA batteries, you will provided with ample battery life to get you where you want to go.

Whether hiking, hunting or going out on the water, the Montana 600 accepts microSD cards which allows you to choose from a variety of mapping options such as TOPO U.S. 24K maps for hitting the trails, BlueChart g2 for a day on the water, or City Navigator for turn by turn directions. You can even add satellite images to your maps with BirdsEye Satellite Imagery (subscription required) or download paper maps into digital files with Garmin Custom Maps. And with the option to download the free trip-planning software, BaseMap, you can easily view and organize maps, waypoints, routes and tracks and share details of your favorite hike or cache wirelessly with other compatible Garmin GPS users. In addition, the Montana 600 supports geocaching GPX files so you can download geocaches and details directly to you unit, alleviating the tedious task of manually entering coordinates and generating printouts.
