A Large 8.4 Keyed Sunlight viewable Display is just the beginning of this Mapping and Sonar Powerhouse. An intuitive keyed operation the 840xs is simple to operate and offers the ability to add SideVu fishfinder, radar, weather and the capability of being controlled or viewed with Garmin Helm.
Network – The 840xs has a NMEA 2000 networking feature built in allowing you to add Sirius XM weather, engine information and other NMEA 2000 devices. You can also add more displays that will share information such as Radar, weather and SideVuSonar (traditional sonar excluded) . Highly detailed mapping, top notch fishfinder and network expandability right out of the box make this combination unit a perfect choice for almost any boater whether fishing or cruising.
Preloaded Maps – It all starts with the confidence of knowing where you are and where you are going. Whether in your favorite Lake or heading offshore, the 840xs has detailed mapping that will clearly show depth contours, spot soundings and buoys. If the built-in charts are not enough or you are in one of a few lakes that are not covered, extra mapping is available. For offshore you can add the optional Garmin g2 Vision Chart which will provide Auto Guidance, High Resolution Satellite Imagery and 3-D perspectives above and below the water line. For Inland Lakes you can add the optional LakeVu HD Ultra Chart which provides Auto Guidance, Depth Range Shading, Dynamic Lake Level Adjustment and 3-D perspectives above and below the waterline.
Sonar – The Garmin GPSMAP 840xs is packed with Sonar options and capabilities. Built-in behind the crisp 8” display is an HD-ID 1kw sonar and DownVu Sonar with CHIRP. With GCV 10 Black box sonar you can add SideVu scanning and a traditional CHIRP sonar. CHIRP, Compressed High Intensity Radar Pulse, Sonar operates differently by transmitting multiple frequencies that are sent continuously from low to high frequencies, instead of by just one frequency thus providing a more coherent image. With all of these fishfinding technologies at your fingertips, you can now see fish, bait, structure, ledges and rocks like never before. For standard digital sonar, a seperate transducer is required.
Radar - Another part of your complete Garmin helm is Radar. From the 18xHD all the way up to the 1206xHD you will know what is around your making navigation safer. The 840XS will let you view the radar in full screen or split screen with fishfinder or chart. You also have the ability to overlay the radar onto the chart (heading sensor required). On anchor? Set up guard zones to know if anyone or anything comes with-in your allotted range. Offshore fishing and looking for birds? Add a 6kw open array or larger and see where the birds are feeding to find the bait and the fish. Simply want to make sure you don’t hit anything in the dark or fog? Add the 18xHD or 24xHD to view objects you can not normally see with the naked eye.
