FLIR's AI Target Tracking technology is designed specifically for maritime environments. The system can automatically detect and classify common marine objects, including vessels, buoys, watercraft, and people in the water. Once a target is selected, the FLIR M460 can automatically track it using dynamic pan-and-tilt control, helping operators maintain visual contact even in rough seas, crowded waterways, or during high-speed maneuvers. For situations requiring additional visual confirmation, the M460 includes a tight-beam 1000-lumen laser spotlight capable of illuminating targets up to approximately 1 km away under specified conditions.

At the heart of the FLIR M460 is a 640 × 512 VOx long-wave infrared (LWIR) thermal sensor with a 5.4× optical zoom. Its thermal field of view ranges from 30.68° wide to 5.86° narrow, allowing operators to detect and monitor distant objects while maintaining useful scene awareness. FLIR's digital detail enhancement further improves image clarity and contrast for long-range observation. The FLIR M460 also incorporates a 4K ultra-low-light visible camera with up to 25× optical zoom. With resolution up to 3840 × 2160 at 30 frames per second, the visible camera complements the thermal sensor by providing detailed daytime and nighttime imagery. Its high-sensitivity capability helps maintain visibility when ambient light is extremely limited.

Maintaining a steady image on a moving vessel is critical for effective long-range observation. The FLIR M460 uses three-axis gyro stabilization to compensate for vessel movement and provide a stable viewing platform. The system supports 360° continuous pan and ±90° tilt, allowing operators to monitor virtually any direction around the vessel. The FLIR M460 combines thermal and visible imagery to give operators greater context when identifying objects. FLIR's Color Thermal Vision can incorporate color information from the visible camera into thermal imagery, helping distinguish navigation marks, vessels, shorelines, and other features in the scene.
