The Garmin VHF 215 AIS Marine Radio is a 25-watt Class D DSC VHF giving you a great option to fill the communication needs for your vessel. Designed to complement the looks of other Garmin products, the 215 has NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 making it compatible with any other brand as well. Built-in US, Canada and International channels as well as 10 NOAA weather channels, the VHF 215 AIS will fill your communication needs almost anywhere you maybe.

Built-in to every VHF 215 AIS is Class D DSC (Digital Selective Calling) functionality which provides some very nice safety features. Most importantly you have the ability to send an emergency Distress Call with the touch of a single button. With the built-in GPS your signal will include the exact Lat/Lon of your location. If you program in your MMSI the signal will also have information pertaining to your boat. DSC also gives you the ability to make private direct calls to another vessel, great for that fisherman that doesn’t want to broadcast information.

Interfacing your VHF215 to your chartplotter via NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 will allow you to see the AIS targets on your chartplotter display. This is especially helpful in congested areas or at night when you can’t actually “see” the other vessel. The 215 also has a 20-Watt hailer built in with listen back feature. If you need a single VHF radio with the AIS built-in, the VHF 215 AIS should be a top pick!
